About Costa Rica

Costa Rica is situated in Central America between Nicaragua and Panama. Costa Rica has two coast the Pacific and the Carribean. Its a small country about the size of West Virgina.  The capital of Costa Rica is San Jose, and their are direct flights into San Jose airport called, Juan Santamaria. The countries population is about 5 million and a landmass of 20,000 sq miles (51,000 sq km). Costa Rica weather has two seasons the dry seasons from December through to April, and the rainy season from April to October.

 

Costa Rica was founded by the Spanish, it was called the Costa Rica because of its rich coats, of abundance beauty and nature.

More than 25% of Costa Rica’s land is dedicated to national parks, reserves and wildlife refuges. Get ready for nature! There are more than 100 different protected areas to visit. Costa Rica hosts more than 5% of the world’s biodiversity even though its landmass only takes up .03% of the planet's surface. Costa Rica has beautiful butterflies, dart frogs, toucans, macaws, and humming birds

Costa Ricans are known to be friendly and very simpathetic to visitors. Ticos (local name for Costa Ricans) are kind people, warm hearted, and helpful. Pura Vida is a term used A LOT in Costa Rica, which directly translated means Pure Life. Costa Rica's official language is Spanish, though a large number of its citizens are bilingual. Costa Rica has been voted a few times as been the happiest nation in the world. Also been ranked with the longest life expectany in Americas. The healthy system is one of the best in the world. 

Costa Rica Food

Costa Rica has delicious food. The typical is the rice and beans. Which is actually very healthy for you. For breakfast, the ticos eat rice and beans mixed together which is called Gallo Pinto. Which is served with fried plantines, eggs and sour cream. 

Costa Rica has abundance of fruits and vegetables, so if you ever get the change don't forget to visit the markets, which are usually located in the towns on weekends.

Getting here

 

Costa Rica is only 2 1/2 hours from Miami!. Costa Rica has two main international airports, one in the center of San Jose, Juan Satamaria, and the other Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, in the province of Guanacaste. Most visitors can get into Costa Rica without the need of a Visa and can stay in the country for 30 days. Bring, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and bug repellent. 

 

There are 7 provinces in Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Limon, Cartago, Heredia and Alajuela. The northwest of the country, the Nicoya peninsula, was the southernmost point of Nahuatl cultural influence when the Spanish conquerors (conquistadores) came in the 16th century. The central and southern portions of the country had Chibcha influences. The Atlantic coast, meanwhile, was populated with African workers during the 17th and 18th centuries. Christianity is the predominant religion of the country.
