Even though only 7% of the world’s original rain forests remain, more than half of the planet’s species still live there, meaning more than 50% of all the plant and animal species on the planet are found in the tropical rain forests.
One fourth of the medicines available today owe their existence to plants. Seventy percent of the plants useful in cancer treatment identified by the National Cancer Institute are found only in the rain forest.
The jungles here are gems and secluded on the planet, and play host to an incredibly varied mix of insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds. Costa Rica’s forestation can be primarily classified into three groups; rainforests, cloud forests and topical dry forests.
